With less than two months away to prepare, it is time to revisit the checklist:

  • Oil the elbow joints. (Drinks don’t pour themselves.)
  • Grease the knee joints. (There’s going to be some jumping out of seats.
  • Apologize to the neighbors. (There WILL be some yelling practice going on.)
  • Dust off the wooden spoons. (There will be some Galaxy ass-whooping happening!)
  • Have your bag ready to go. (We may need to escort the defeated back to their own planet.)
  • And last, but not least, pay for yo’ food! (New menu this year!!!)

I know everyone looks forward to those amazingly yummy tacos and quesadillas provided by our amazingly awesome taco guy, but we’ve decided to change it up a bit this year.  Courtesy of our same amazingly awesome taco guy, the meal not to be missed will be as follows:

Pulled Pork Sandwiches

BBQ Chicken Sandwiches

Baked Beans

Corn on the Cob

Grab yourself a napkin and wipe up that drool.  Now get yourself to Paypal and reserve your spot for just $15/person (and yes, it will be all-you-can-eat, just like always!), or pay in cash at your nearest tailgate.

Off to NomNom Land

As usual, wristbands will be handed out at the California Clasico tailgate.  Make your payments early so we can give Alberto and his crew an accurate count, so he can make sure all walk away happy and full!

Keep an eye out for future information!

Help to Bring ProSoccer to San Francisco!

Hey guys, please help our new pro soccer team, SF Deltas, get a proper home in the heart of San Francisco–Kezar Stadium. First thing you can do is sign your name and address in the letter below.

Secondly, we have reached the final step to obtain the stadium contract that approves the SF Deltas to play their home games at Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park (the original home of the 49ers and Raiders). The majority of the people who know about the SF Deltas are in strong support. However, the process for approval has an important final step that is based on the number of people who show up to the SF Recreation & Park Commission hearing at City Hall.

The Commissioners will vote based on how many people attend the hearing in support of the SF Deltas. The biggest challenge? The hearing is in the middle of the work day.

Would you please join us to ensure our team has the best home possible in San Francisco?

Here are the hearing details:

When:    Thursday, March 17 @ 9:30 am

*Note: The hearing end time varies on where we are placed on the agenda. We’ll have that information 72 hours before the hearing. If we are first on the agenda, we should be out by noon. If we are later in the agenda, we should be done by early afternoon.

Where: San Francisco City Hall – 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, SF, CA 94102  Room 416

The benefits of bringing pro soccer to the community include:

– World’s game – An opportunity to bring professional soccer on a manageable and intimate scale into the heart of San Francisco.

Rec and Park facility improvements and revenue – Nearly 1 million dollars in upgrades and deferred maintenance repair at Kezar and Boxer stadiums (half of which will take place prior to the first game).

– Affordable and accessible entertainment with multicultural appeal – Discount pricing (3,000 tickets @ $20 or less a game), free entry (200 spectators per game).

– Neighborhood commerce – Games anticipated to draw thousands of spectators – some of whom are expected to visit local shops, bars and restaurants.

It would be hugely appreciated if you could help us. I’d be happy to follow up with a call/e-mail to give you more details if you’d like.

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your support!

Pajama Program provides new pajamas and new books to children in need nationwide, many of whom are waiting to be adopted. These children live in group homes, shelters and temporary housing facilities and are shuffled often from one place to another. Many of them have been abandoned, abused or neglected. Most of these children have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a parent tuck them in at bedtime with warm, clean pajamas and a bedtime story. Some of the children are living with their families below the poverty level, in desperate need of food, clothing and shelter. These two simple gifts of pajamas and books let the children know that someone cares – sometimes these are the only new things they have ever received.

Who Are Our Children?

  • Children in need ranging from newborn to age 18.
  • Children who are living 200% below the poverty level.
  • Children of teenage pregnancies with parents who struggle to take care of them.
  • Children who are homeless and living in shelters.
  • Children who come to the shelter without any clothing or belongings.
  • Children in foster care.
  • Children who are youth of incarcerated parents.
  • Children who have been physically or emotionally abused and neglected.
  • Children who are emotionally traumatized.
  • Children who have been abandoned.
  • Children who are in head start programs.

“We have some children dealing with the fact that they are not stable, they don’t have a stable home. Children are dealing with moving. They are transitional, they are always moving from one place to another. And I think emotionally it can be a lot for the children.” – Caretaker

Pajama Program’s Story

“What are these?”

This was not a question from a child on a school trip to a museum, but from Maria, a child in a shelter who was holding for the first time a new pair of pajamas. When finally convinced that she could take off the clothes she wore all day and sleep in the pajamas she said, “you mean I can keep these for the rest of my life?”

From experiences like this, Pajama Program, a 501(c)(3) founded in 2001, was created. Pajama Program serves children throughout the nation with 60 Chapters in 33 States. Thousands of pajamas and books are being provided to children in desperate need of comfort and care. The pajamas have come to represent people who care, and they offer security and love for a child abandoned in a shelter or waiting for a foster home. The books complete a nighttime ritual that so many of us took for granted… when Mom or Dad said, “okay get your pajamas on and I’ll be right in to read you a story.” Children in transition seldom hear these comforting words.

IMPORTANT Changes to “Feed the Homeless”

We are still looking for volunteers for tomorrow to help pass out a Thanksgiving meal to those lessfortunate.  We did have some changes arise this morning.  Please read the following letter that went out to volunteers who are currently signed up:

Dear Fellow Volunteers!

Thank you for signing up to volunteer to help “Feed the Homeless” at Avaya Stadium on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 12: 00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

Unfortunately, we have been given some information this morning that contradicts some of the information we passed on to you originally. We apologize deeply for this miscommunication. We know the information will effect a few of our volunteers. It seems that not all ages are acceptable to volunteer at this particular event. All volunteers must be 14+. We understand if this changes your ability to attend the event.

We also need to ask you to sign up (even if you already signed up at Eventbrite) at the following link: Earthquakes Volunteer Hub, so that CityTeam has record of the amount of volunteers showing up.

We always try our best to pass on information as quickly and efficiently as possible when given these wonderful opportunities to help out those who are less fortunate. Unfortunately, there was a bump in the road of communication this time and we sincerely hope it will not cause too much of an inconvenience for our great group of Volunteers.

Please contact us at questions@sjcasbah.org if you have any questions. Otherwise, we hope to still see you tomorrow at Avaya Stadium!

In Soccer,

The San Jose Casbah

If you have not signed up yet to volunteer, and are willing and able, please do so at the following link Earthquakes Volunteer Hub.  If you are unable to physically be at the event, City Team is also taking monetary donations for Thanksgiving meals, as you will see, by going through the link above.

May your Thanksgiving bring smiles, laughter, and love.

What Better Way to Give Thanks Than with Our Earthquakes Family

Join the San Jose Casbah, along with the your favorite MLS Team’s Front Office, in serving frozen Thanksgiving dinners to 12,000 deserving people.

Come for the entire event, or even just an hour.  Remind those who are less-fortunate there’s always someone out there who cares.

Your San Jose Earthquakes and Cityteam Ministries are joining forces to serve food to the city’s homeless population.  This will take place at our own Avaya Stadium. Help distribute frozen goods to each family so they will have a Thanksgiving meal.

Cordell Cato and our mascot, Q, will also be on hand.

This inspiring event takes place on Tuesday, November 24th, from Noon-2:30 p.m. There is no age minimum to help, so bring out the entire family.  And don’t forget to bring along your friends.

Every helping hand will help in this endeavor to fill tummies and create smiles.

Let us know you’re available by clicking on this link!
